Guillaume Corneille was a Belgian painter, sculptor and printer born in 1922. Profoundly influenced by Surrealism, he was along with Karel Appel a cofounder of the Roflex and Co.Br.A movements. Mainly focusing on abstraction, Corneille modified his style in the last years of his career after visiting the South of Europe and North Africa. His newly acquired expressionism brought him to paint colourful and vibrant canvases inspired by the powerful natural landscapes Corneille was enthralled by just before his death in 2010.
